HOW CAN I BE SURE?

How can I

be sure?  Because he’s a rock that no one can deny.

How can I

adore?  Because he’s not for changing that look in his eye.

How can I

take hope?  Because he tells me to.

And that’s good enough for me, and should be for you, and everyone who want a world without poverty or war.
How can I

write a poem for such a very special birthday? Because I’m writing it, quite naturally,
for Jeremy…J

Is it possible

Is it possible

In this ferocious political climate, to have reasonable debate?
This is the question…

Can true socialists really relate enough to debate?

Is it possible

for the women to stop bitching, and the men to stop behaving like primates?

Three questions
that only time will tell if ‘common need’ overcomes human nature in jealousy and greed.

We shall just have to wait and see, after all! This is not a competition in popularity, it is a ‘World Vision’ in fair play and honest clarity.

And that’s all you will get from me!

Aka Tai Chi Italy
Smiling at you
Because I can, you see!

*Note* 1) If you recognise yourself in this little ditty, it obviously applies to you and you should try to stop spinning the negatives! If you don’t, please feel free to join me in solidarity and reasonable debate along with our new ‘Hope’ in Jeremy Corbyn for a Labour government that cares about every member of society.

A Veteran's Guide To Surviving Repetitive Strain Injury

If you get treatment early, and manage it. Varying work practices, staying relaxed and stretchhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing often, will give you the key to surviving Repetitive Strain Injury. Just don't panic.

With a condition such as RSI you may suffer from a combination of problems that have been put together under this 'Umbrella' term that all too often can lead to misdiagnosis/under-diagnosis and general demoralization in the sufferer. I would advise anyone who finds themselves suffering from symptoms, to firstly insist on Nerve Conduction Tests, and a thorough examination by a neurologist/physiotherapist/health professional, of all the nerve/neurological pathways in your upper body/tendons/Muscles, in order to arrive an accurate and comprehensive, diagnosis that can then be used to treat you successfully, and most importantly, early in the onset of symptoms.
Such early intervention/diagnosis will negate the need of the last resort, of eventually requiring surgery. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is both an RSI and a nerve damage/entrapment condition that is reported to respond well to surgery, but not all RSI's will be relieved from Carpal Tunnel Release CTR surgery. Mind/body treatments/practice, ultimately use physical manipulation to release tension in muscles and joint areas where symptoms concentrate, (Trigger points/hot spots and are thought to be the most helpful for those that do not/or would not respond to CTR surgery.
On a social level
Most RSI's are generally invisible to the untrained eye, and have in the distant past, been barely recognized by either most Health professionals, or the public at large. However, awareness is growing as occurrence of RSI's in the Work Place increases to alarming numbers today, due to, one would guess, the vast increase in computer based jobs that require most professions to have keyboarding skills that in the past, secretaries/typists would fulfill. The office for Official Government Statistics claims no increase in cases of RSI's since 2002, at the height of awareness and increase in cases reported. This may be true, but 200,000 different people per year being afflicted by this painful, and all too often, life changing debility, is a recipe for disaster for future generations. These statistics do not factor in the amount of unreported cases of RSI, by people in fear of losing their jobs. Desk top professionals are everywhere, and everyone, business's and the young in particular, seem to have the iPhone, where messaging has been turned into an essential art of the masses and business, alike.
Computer gaming is also thought to be a big contribution to the increase in RSI amongst the young and under forties. Posture has a huge part to play in this aspect of risk of getting an RSI. Despite this, you may find that you have to deal with a lot of people’s ignorance and misunderstanding, including from family, extended and otherwise, and from friends too, on a daily basis.
The problem is that if someone can't see the problem, and you don't complain (something sufferers rarely do for fear of stigmatization or being seen as a moaner to their loved ones and friends/or possibly losing their income/job) then it can all the more easily be ignored. There is also the anomaly of the condition's intensity of pain variations, according to your hand use activity, on a day to day basis. You could feel fine one day, and think yourself able to weed the garden, for instance, for a couple of hours, and be seen to do this without obvious difficulty. Unfortunately you can often develop (Post Activity Pain) once you rest, and it is usually at the end of the day, where others may not see your painful state. During this post active time, inflammation builds up before it gradually subsides. At this time of heightened pain you can feel unable to do the barest necessities such as holding a cup, or turning a key. These anomalies in your abilities from one time to the next can often cause doubt in others minds, even those closest to you. This applies to both professional and personal relationships. As a sufferer for the past twenty six years, being originally diagnosed with tenosynovitis with a negative NCT result, I have experienced such doubts amongst the closest of my friends and family, (ALWAYS FORGIVEN) and also a lot of skepticism from a variety of health professionals, tellingly, other than most of my Doctors, who got to know me well, and other professionals such as my main physiotherapist over several years. Emotionally, this, more often than not, unspoken doubt from an observer, can be devastating and psychologically crippling to the sufferer. On top of the physical pain and countless limitations an RSI sufferer may have to deal with, this added indignity can quickly overwhelm, and depression can set in.
RSI is an insidious condition with many layers that will make you cry out loud, but it is surmountable, and treatable, if we don't give up.

For Instant Pain Relief.
Rest is the most helpful. Ice (not directly applied) is highly effective if positioned at inflamed hot spots. (mainly wrists but /elbows/forearms/neck/nerve junctions).

Splints are useful in preventing bending of the wrists, and hence tendon flexor area over the carpal tunnel. This reduces inflammation, whilst enabling continued use of your hands/fingers. It is sensible to limit use as splinting can weaken the muscles, and also encourages 'over use' of hands, which in turn exacerbates inflammation in the long term.
Stress is a major factor in RSI.
It stands to reason that if we are stressed our bodies are held in a 'stressed state' that increases pressure around the muscles and tendons through the hands, wrists and forearms, shoulders, neck and back muscles, causing tightness and pain. It is important to find a means of relaxing in order to manage pain of RSI, and/or hopefully, be cured. It depends of the extent of the initial injury, and whether or not it is picked up early, plus, our personal circumstances are hugely relevant. For instance, motherhood can be a time of life that is not conducive to rest, but despite the difficulties and pain, it can still be one of the best times of your life, particularly if you have a loving partner/family/friends as support to help you cope.
The first thing we need to consider is relaxation, and we can all find this in deep slow breathing' that will have you relaxing within a few minutes. This is one of the keys in why 'Mind/Body exercises/practices such as Tai Chi and Yoga can be so successful in controlling RSI symptoms and pain, and ultimately helping in managing your condition, and hopefully, eventual recovery.   Movement is synchronized with your breathing. (Stepping (Action) movement (breathe in) sinking into step (slow breathe out. You don't need to know Tai Chi or other Mind/Body practice’s, you can simply achieve relaxation by breathing more slowly, consciously, and deeply in this manner. In through the nose (tip of tongue on roof of mouth just behind your front upper teeth) Out through the nose (Breathing out through mouth is recommended for people with health problems relating to lungs/asthma etc.). ((((Whilst breathing, your tummy should be relaxed on in breath, and you should practice contracting the pelvic floor on your exhale)))) This is Tai Chi breathing, and how we all breathed as babies and small children, until we were introduced to 'The System' of School etc. etc., where we were taught tummy IN chest OUT sort of stance/breathing rhythms, especially those of us who were post war and sixties babies. Learning to breath correctly, is the first key to relaxation, but it also energizes through increased oxygen throughout the blood stream, that also leads to a slower heart rate/blood pressure.
Emotional Stress Relief
Having a good cry now and again, is also good for relieving stress, don't hold it in or back, just try not to let such emotions build up, by not dealing with them at all, because slowly and surely, those feelings will develop into full blown depression. Think, 'slow and easy exercise'.  Ie do a little, rest enough, do a little more, rest again, above all, take your time. Rushing at things causes stress in the body, and ultimately increases tension and pain. On this level, I think men are affected more than women by their very nature of 'Hunter Gatherer' genealogy.
Regarding family life/relationships - Strong relationships seem to survive, you just have to live a little differently, and your family and friends, be able to accept this, which is easier said than achieved, but no matter what our situation, ignorance and judgments by others, can be one of the most difficult aspects of RSI to cope with.  It is insult to injury, but it can also drive a great deal of inspiration your way, if you channel such energy/emotions into positive action, rather than allow it to harm you, your closest loved ones, and in turn your relationships generally. We must always try to rise above whatever prejudices and misunderstanding that comes our way.

Reducing Hand Use
It is always important with RSI, to try to reduce stress on your hands, but particularly in the early stage of your injuries, if, in my opinion, you want the best chance of a recovery.

A well informed Employer,
willing to give you the Time off' you may need to gain a full recovery, is very important, too.  This 'Time' will take away unnecessary financial worry of permanently losing your income and employment/career, (I know how that feels) all of which would lead to further stress on your physical and psychological nervous system .
All activity will cause some strain, so balance is required, and this is where the 'Human' factor, comes to bare, especially if you are a woman. No sexism here, it is just a fact that women have to have things in order around them, and 'Women's work!' is rarely ever finished, so we women in particular, have to change our way of thinking and doing things, if we want to manage symptoms, and increase the chance of a complete recovery. We have to get used to 'untidy' being OK, from time to time, but we also have to keep some semblance of normality in ours and our families lives. However, from the onset of such an injury, the priority should be you.   You need to acknowledge from the start of symptoms, that you may never make much of any recovery if you do not reduce strain on your hands and get 'Good' advice with 'Appropriate' treatment, as early as possible.
Work based training and ergonomic tweaking of your work station, is essential to most Desk Top occupations. Voice activated just isn't the same, and I have found, makes mistakes, that requires longer periods of time at the workstation. Rest breaks/routine change and circulation exercises/moving around from time to time (IE NOT spending one whole hour at one sitting, at a computer.
Slow and gentle stretching exercises have been the most helpful to my experience of living with RSI. As far as returning to your job if you have to stop work. Having an employer that is willing to be flexible with your working practices, and provide health and safety recommended work stations/and introduce regular training in creating variety in your work routine, will certainly make all the difference to a full recovery and an eventual return to ‘Normal’ life.

Diet - Eating the right foods has been a revelation to me since I became Gluten Free in the last year, but I have eaten quite healthily prior to this, with some good results in controlling my overall health, which in turn helps me deal with RSI. Inflammation is a factor, and high antioxidant foods, together with cutting out foods that are known to increase inflammation, are well worth investigating. After all, we are what we eat, and if certain foods make you feel in more pain, it would seem obvious to cut that food out, but do your research thoroughly. The internet is full of good intentions, but some of them do more harm than good. Always check with our own Doctor before making drastic changes to your diet.
The most important thing to remember is NEVER give up hope, and always seek help in managing your pain and symptoms. I would add, to try not to rely on Pain Meds 24/7 (Support groups are more helpful) and seeking out immediate pain relief such as stretching/ice. There is light out there, but you could blow it out if you leave it too long.  RSI is an 'Invisible Condition' most often related to nerve pain.  If left untreated, permanent damage to the nerves may occur.
To sum up, from my own experiences, taking care of 'You' is our greatest key to managing 'Our' repetitive strain injury. We can do it. We must own it, control it and manage it. Ultimately, we can beat it.

Big Bro

is pushing us to the limit.
Bit by bit, Big Bro takes our freedom.
They want to know they have control.
Our every move, they watch
Every day a new ban.
Their aim?  Discreet suppression

of our free will.  How can we halt suppression?
How far will they push before we reach our limit?
Will walking become their next new ban?
Do we have time to halt their stop watch?
Can we take back our self control?

Or will our children be under their control?
No feeling allowed.  No emotion, just crowd suppression.
How can we stop their ticking watch?
Have they pushed us beyond our limit?
Will we have to fight for our freedom?
Tell me how far Man can tolerate their ban?

Can Man not choose what Man should ban?
Or have we lost all control?
We must fight for our right to freedom.
We must resist all further suppression.
Enough is enough. We all have our limit.
It is time to stop their deathly watch.

Slap the hands that wind their watch.
Sack the man who legislates their next ban.
We all have our limit.
No one has the right to this much control.
It is no life worth living under such suppression.
Wars were fought to protect our freedom.

Our brothers, our sons, our men died for our freedom.
Is it not now time for us to stop their watch?
Put an end to this mass suppression.
Our thoughts, our feelings, our self expression, no man can ban.
We must be master of our own destiny.  Self control
is our human goal.  We can determine our own limit.

We must stand up for our freedom.  Our limit
has been breached.  Throw off suppression.  Lift their ban.
Watch our children’s backs. Face facts.  Teach self control.

A Child's Innocence

A child's innocence is the greatest joy to behold. To see children laughing and playing in innocent abandonment is the way God intended. They have no fear. They have complete trust in their parents love to nourish and protect them from all harm.
This is the way it should be. This is a parents greatest challenge. If they fail, their children's innocent lives could be forever impaled. Their children's lives ruined in the blink of an eye. For a parent also, they suffer the consequences of taking their eye off the ball, even for a few minutes, when someone warped and perverted can steal their child's innocence.

All children should have the right to a childhood where they can thrive. Where they can grow and mature into healthy and happy individuals. This is what society wants and needs more than anything else, in my humble opinion. If, however, we fail to protect our children, what are the consequences? What happens to a child who is abused? I believe their emotions often retreat, close down. This is natures way of protecting them from the reality of their abused lives.  Consequently they may no longer thrive, but they do continue to survive. They may believe from their horrific experiences that they are no longer innocent, that they are not protected by their parents, their family or the law. For an abused child, health and happiness seem to have closed the door. They could feel ruined as well balanced individuals, it may seem to them, forever more.

If they tell, they may be saved from their living hell but they often fear they may not be believed. In the past this was often the case, but no longer.

We have seen since the revelations of the 'Saville' child abuse scandal, just how important it is for the child's future healing that these children are taken seriously by parents, family and those in authority. If such child abuse can be halted at a young age and the child can see that Justice is administered against perpetrators, then that child can begin to heal and recover from such rape of their innocence and heartbroken lives.

These children depend on being believed. If they are not, what hope have they got? The answer is 'not a lot'. They will probably struggle at school. They will often retaliate against society and their perceived sickening fate. Many will withdraw, perhaps never feel again. How else do they deal with such trauma? They may bury themselves in work, drink and or drugs. They may fear becoming abusers themselves, or they may choose to not take the risk and never marry or have children of their own. If an unhappy child's emotions shut down they may grow into callous and cold individuals whose relationships never thrive. They may become the socio-paths in our midst that reek havoc in society in a myriad of destructive ways. Or they may have a family where they are distant and cannot relate which will in turn affect their children's lives. They may simply become over protective parents who emotionally suffocate their precious child. Or, with Justice and help they may rise above the scum that sort to ruin their lives and become great mum's and dad's who are determined to not let 'others' ruin their lives or prevent them from raising their own children in love and security where they and their children will thrive.

The importance of being a good parent has never been so great. I believe it is beholden upon every single adult in Society today to protect our children and to wipe out the scourge that is 'Child Abuse'. If we can teach tolerance and understanding and preserve the innocence of childhood so that all children can grow naturally into fully rounded, happy individuals with a history of childhood that they can smile at, then they too will raise their own children in a world where innocence in childhood is treasured and can thrive.

For any parent there is no greater pleasure of a challenge such as that which God put us on earth for. Our children are our future. Child abuse must be prevented wherever possible, not covered up by a suture that will never allow such trauma to heal. Our children deserve a future that is happy and tranquil, not a bitter pill to have to swallow because adults prefer to sweep the 'not pretty facts' under a carpet of denial.

Man - Woman

Our culture is our history and I have found that each culture has it's own traditions that shape how the genders in that society relate to each other.

In the West women have tended to lose their old stereo typical roles completely and as a consequence have also lost the essence of respect that those roles had afforded them in a bygone era. Women in 'so called' civilized society are now portrayed as sex symbols in only 'cold' beauty terms.

The cost is high. To be portrayed as cool but as cold as ice, does not make the grade in achieving a happy family. We see marriage break ups and families fragmenting more frequently, giving an overall sense of loss of structure and balance in those societies.

In the eastern hemisphere on the other hand, women are held back and treated in an equally exaggerated way as in the West, but in the other direction. Being afforded little respect by being treated as servants without feelings or ambition to do anything other than take care of children, cook and clean, is in my opinion, as equally a destructive a situation as the lack of respect and care shown to women in the West.

There has to be a middle ground in order to gain balance in this most important aspect of human civilisation. Men and women should be able to live in harmony and trust each other in order that family and balance can be returned to future generations. I would hope that we all want our families to thrive and grow, along with Society, into a more caring and fulfilling world to live in. We owe it to our children, and Children's children.

To achieve this change we have to look at stereo typical portrayal in the media, and how way off the mark it is in nurturing a good, caring society.

I have been horrified at some of the down right selfish portrayals in simple advertising. Examples that spring to mind are that of a girl moving her car so the chump hanging out of her window doesn't fall on it and scratch it. Using ironic humour to sell cruelty and lack of empathy in this way just encourages the parting of the ways of men and women.

Another example is the telling lies and going to extreme lengths to keep a man out your your bed in order to snuggle up with a lousy chocolate drink!? This would not induce a sense of worth in any male that I would want in my bed! Tripping someone up in order to reach out and grab their goodies, is another example. The media encouraging celebrities who split up, to fight in public, spill the dirt etc. etc. etc. is no way to go on. The rub is, we are poisoning our own perceptions of what is right and wrong in order that the powers that be, get what they want. IE Everyone working their guts out to make them rich. People burning out through exhaustion and lack of proper health and care, is a true vision of family despair. No togetherness, is not the way it is meant to be. Man and woman in harmony work very well. We must see that the media encourage this alliance and do not continue to dilute it down until there is nothing left to save.

Less of the 'Ladette' mentality and more of the gentlemanly, 'Open all doors' attitude, would truly make the difference for generations to come. Put an end to ridicule and competition between gender roles. We are each perfect for the roles we were given. Our biological make up is such that we must fulfil our needs. Women are built to nurture and men are built to hunt and care for their family. Gathering is their job and rearing is a woman's. These two taken together in harmony could put an end to child poverty, cruelty and many other scourges within our societies today.

Discrimination and hatred towards all minority groups would slowly be eradicated and life would be much easier for everyone. Men need to care by hunting, and women need to care by nurturing their children, and their men.

This is quietly important to society today because without change now, 'Here' could quite soon no longer be a society we will want to live in!

ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY

We are hearing in the news that our Accident & Emergency health Services are so much under pressure that patients welfare can no longer be guaranteed.

Why are so many people in this country in need of such emergency care?

Could it have something to do with the fact that people are becoming ill because they now live a society that is being encouraged 'Not to care' by their own Government cuts to Welfare?

We are certainly not well as a society, and I doubt anyone can say the cuts to services, benefits, housing needs, the disabled's ability to thrive or even survive, deteriorating working conditions and so called Workfare (working for free) is fair, or ever likely to produce a population who are happy and healthy with their lot.

Could it be that the pressures caused by robbing the poor to indulge the rich, is the real root of why our Accident & Emergency front line is being overwhelmed? It should be obvious that if you take away a persons ability to feed themselves by withholding their income, it is going to make that person sick. Just think about it. All those people who refused to go through those humiliating ATOS medicals, are now have to try and compete for work that 'Workfare' has made even harder to find, with nearly 3,000.000 able bodied job seekers, who are finding it extremely difficult to get work.

Just think about it. When 600,000 low income families are being squeezed out of their homes by a government who tax them on their perceived living space, are added to the mix, the picture becomes chaotic.

If you are forced to move home, isn't it obvious that you are going to feel low; Depressed; stressed?

Stress is a killer. It makes people sick. It makes people depressed. It makes some people commit suicide. It makes people take less care. It causes Accidents & Emergencies.

Could this be the reason our health service is so over stretched? Think about it
at the polls, but for the love of our once Green and Pleasant Land...do not vote UKIP.

Unless you really want to watch our NHS ship sink and our society truly stink.
